Katie Hurd Life Culture Coach At Home Japan

Hi! I’m Katie!

I help professionals and organizations become “neurofit”—leveraging the power of behavioral psychology and neuroscience to unlock leadership potential and build thriving, adaptable teams across cultures.

Helping Global Leaders & Teams Thrive with Emotional Intelligence & Cultural Agility

As Founder of Neurofit Global, I chose our logo with intention–a brain with two people growing a tree together in all sorts of glorious colors–which hopefully reminds us of what we need to be “neurofit”:

  • Neuro-fitness: Our brain is our most important asset–and our nervous system runs through our entire body. How our minds have been programmed in life, whether to take initiative or hold back, our tendencies towards optimism or pessimism, how our bodies respond to and interpret stressors–these impact everything that we do and not one of us is programmed the same

  • Connection-Our people, not one leader, grow companies through building supportive relationships and working together. No one can drive fantastic change alone

  • Healthy Cultures—Just like trees, people are not robots, they are living beings. They need cultures that allow them to work sustainably in order to thrive AND perform

I’ve certainly learned these important lessons myself just as much through my own challenges as from my work supporting professionals with their leadership development.

For the past 18 years in Japan, I’ve embraced the guiding belief: “I can figure this out.” That growth mindset carried me through countless challenges—from teaching English to leading global leadership training at a top Japanese advanced materials company, to managing HR at a fast-paced global financial startup.

Navigating cultural differences, surviving micromanagement (and its distant cousin, barely-there management), and trying to thrive in multinational environments wasn’t always easy. At times, I felt like a fish out of water, questioning whether I could truly be myself and grow in spaces where I didn’t always feel I belonged.

But every challenge brought more valuable lessons:

  • You can learn cognitive flexibility without sacrificing authenticity

  • Confidence is cultivated, not a given.

  • Adaptability isn’t just a nice to have skill—it’s a necessity.

Why This Matters for You

As a leadership coach for the past five years, I’ve worked with hundreds of global professionals and organizations. I’ve seen firsthand how burnout, leadership misalignment, emotional blind spots, and cultural misunderstandings can hold people back.

But I’ve also watched the transformation that comes from developing self-awareness, cultural agility, and connection with others, leading to

  • Increased engagement and retention.

  • More cohesive, collaborative teams.

  • Better performance and overall well-being.

Research confirms this: Enhanced emotional intelligence and well-being are directly linked to higher engagement and improved performance. Yet, so many leaders aren’t aware of how their learned norms, habits, and unconscious expectations shape their leadership approach and ability to thrive.

What I Do at Neurofit Global

I help professionals connect the dots—understanding how their nervous systems, personality traits, life experiences, and behaviors shape their emotional resilience and leadership capabilities.

Through coaching, training, and wellness retreats, I guide clients to:

  • Raise their self-awareness and effectively regulate themselves in alignment with their goals.

  • Close the gaps of what they “don’t know they don’t know.”

  • Develop the cultural agility needed to thrive and connect globally.

“The most important mindset I applied as a result of the program was the importance of taking the first hard steps. I also appreciated the strategies we discussed for effectively managing and motivating my new subordinates who were formerly senior to me, and managing up.
